Faculty Yoga Study in Pune, India
From Osha on November 5:
I am back from Goa and the fireworks are still going here in Pune. Our driver picked us up last Sat afternoon for our adventure, we quickly learned that our english speaking driver didn't speak English. About 1/2 way there we learned that he didn't really know the way to Goa or where in Goa we were going and the map we had did not interest him. After asking many people along the way we made it to our destination. The scenery there and back was beautiful we hit sunset along a long stetch of agricultural villages. The road went from a new 4 lane toll road to almost no road at all to winding hill top roads. North Goa looks like a resort area anywhere we continued to South Goa which appeared at 1 am to be the end of the earth. The place that we had booked on the internet had no sign so with much difficulty we finally found it. The night watcheman led us to our ecological cabanna accross the path from the ponies cabanna. At night it felt as if we were the onlly ones there and we had no idea where there was. By day it proved to be a moost charming place thoughtfully and creatively put together in the middle of a coconut grove. All those familiar house plants growing to enormous size. The bathrooms included bucket showers. The season had not really begun so there was much activity everywhere building and preparing.

The restaurant seved a mixture of German health food, Indian, Goan food and fish. Most of which was not avaiable. The first day we spent exploring Palolem beach the Lonely planet described it as still undeveloped but there were cabannas and restaurants and shops as many as they could fit in catering to the western tourist. The second day we went to the wildlife reserve saw some monkeys and a snake. Very beautiful, green no trash and empty. After several very rural villages we came to where we were told that there was a waterfall 3km from the road. Actually the road ended there. As we started off to find the water fall a guide appeared as usual. We wached a new small dam being built in bucket brigade style, amazing trees and a spectacular waterfall with a pool warm enough to swim in. My favorite. The next day we found Patnem beach which was just what we had in mind a few huts a very few people warm Arabian see. So much fun to swim in an ocean and not be cold. A little further down was more beach with a huge resort set back away from the beach behind a golf course. We rented Kayaks there and paddled down the river watching people clam and collect riverweed. |

The last day we went out in a fishing boat to look for dolphins. We found one lonely dolphin and an oil slick. We got to see the shore line and the islands around the area. The boat was a hollowed out log with two boards tied on sealed and shaped to make the sides of the boat.... This young mother with three children put up a rope one child played the drums the other handed things to the ropewalker (about 10 years old). She carries a pole as she walked back and forth then added a stack of pots on her head the walked in a bicycle rim, with flip flops and with her knees in a bowl on the rope . She didn't miss a beat. Thieir own family circus. They took it down and went to another spot. It was a highlight! .. It was a great outing and after 23 hours on Indian roads I am ready to write a thesis on the meaning and variety of ways to honk your horn. Much love.
