Faculty Yoga Study in Pune, India

We flew into Jodhpur and we were picked up by a dashing man in a 1942 Jeep. Taken through the gates past the bustling market at the clock tower, through wedding preparations to our 250 year-old guest house with a view of the fort and a rooftop restaurant with 360 view. The streets are very narrow with open sewers and lots of cows. All night there were marching bands and men, bringing the bridegroom to ? It is wedding season here and the bands played on. Music from Mosques and temples in the air.

In the morning we took a most impressive tour (had an audio portion) of the fort where the Maharajs have lived until this generation. The present Majaraj, no longer the head of state, has spent much effort restoring and maintaining the fort and its history. The history came to life. Warriors! Learned how they used opium in prep for battle, how the wives would sit above their husbands funeral pyres and burn while reading the Gita. Court life down to the weights ( they looked like large juggling pins) that the women would use to keep in shape. The old city is painted in Indigo as a way to show that they were Brahmin also as insect repellent... That night we left at 11:30pm on a night train to Jaisalmer. The train station was filled with people wrapped in blankets lying on the floor. The train was comfortable we arrived at 5:30 am in the cold dark.
