Yoga Teacher Training–Part-time Program Starts Soon

12 week part-time program begins in just under 2 weeks!

April 2 – June 23, 2013 – 200 Hour Teacher Training Program

There are still a few spots available!  Our 12-week part-time program is for working Bay Area yogis who can commit to Tuesday and Friday nights, plus Saturday and Sunday afternoons for three months. Many students prefer having more time to assimilate their studies and allow time for work, school, or family.

Yoga Garden’s Teacher Training is a community-supported personal transformation. Deepen your personal practice or learn to lead others. Learn the fundamentals of structuring classes, teaching skills, anatomy, philosophy, and the business of yoga.

We empower you with the knowledge, experience, and support to begin teaching yoga immediately upon completion of the program. See what our graduates are doing on our Graduates Page.

Sankalpa: The Power of Intention

by Sonya Genel (www.SonyaYoga.com)

I have heard many interpretations of the Sanskrit word Sankalpa. It roughly translates to “will, purpose, or determination” but I believe it can best be understood as an affirmation of intention. In the practice of yoga, working with a clear and honest Sankalpa consistently over time is incredibly powerful and often utterly transformative.

For me, yoga has always been so much more than just exercise. By weaving in a Sankalpa, I sense that each pose is both a dedication and a reflection of the intention in my heart. The physicality of this translation from mental words into embodied actions generates great power. The experience is profound. In doing asana, I am making prayerful art with my body. more »

Doulas

A doula is a labour coach, a non-medical person who assists a woman before, during, or after childbirth, as well as her partner and or family, by providing information, physical assistance and emotional support.  The provision of continuous support during labour by doulas has been associated with improved maternal and fetal health and a variety of other benefits.

At her recent workshop, Helping Women Heal from A Traumatic or Negative Birth, Gabby Yates and I were forturnate enough to meet some wonderful doulas.  We would like to recommend Carmen, Lucy and Ilka to all of you.  I’m providing their information below.  I’d like to encourage you to learn more about doulas, and to conduct careful interviews before making a final decision. more »

We’re Making Changes Based on Your Feedback

Two weeks ago we asked for your input regarding possible changes to class times during peak hours. Thank you for your responses! Based on your responses, we are making two changes. As most of you requested, we are working with the instructors to ensure that they start and end promptly. Second, some classes during the busiest peak hours will now end five minutes earlier for a smoother transition between one group and the next. more »
