Why Yoga Garden?

Whether you are looking for a relaxing class, a challenging workout or a new career as a teacher, the Garden delivers the highest caliber instruction.

Yoga classes at Yoga Garden SF are a uniquely San Francisco experience. Housed in an old Victorian home in one of San Francisco’s hippest neighborhoods–you know you’ve arrived as you walk down our garden path and leave the hectic urban bustle behind. Inside, a welcoming smile directs you to one of three studios, where one of San Francisco’s best yoga teachers will guide you through your practice. Afterward, connect with fellow yoga students and practitioners–regulars in your class–and enjoy the many cafes, restaurants, and shops in our neighborhood.

Your visit to Yoga Garden brings you to one of San Francisco’s quintessential neighborhoods, where NOPA and Lower Haight collide. Classic Victorians, like Yoga Garden’s home, abut some of San Francisco’s trendiest eateries, clubs, hotels, salons, spas, and shops. Four iconic parks lie within a four-block radius of the Garden. Easy access from many Muni lines, secure bike parking, and convenient street street parking make Yoga Garden accessible throughout the day. Map it.

Your walk along our enclosed garden path can be a meditative separation from the bustle of the City, or a coming home as you are greeted by friends and acquaintances. Yoga Garden lives in a turn-of-the-century Victorian home, where you will find three studios, a retail boutique, showers and changing rooms on three floors.

Yoga Garden SF was founded in 1998 as Castro Yoga. In 2004 the studio moved to its current location, changed it’s name to Yoga Garden SF.

Since inception, the owners and teachers of Yoga Garden SF have explored the relationship between authentic yoga styles—in particular, Iyengar, Ashtanga and vinyasa—to effectively deliver the promise of yoga to you, the modern practitioner.

Though you will find a variety of classes,you will always find this:

  • the opportunity to have a transformative experience that will move you closer to a truer expression of yourself;
  • instruction based on real experience;
  • artful and clear guidance;
  • an acceptance of who and where you are, with an invitation to take the next step forward towards your higher self; and
  • a firm commitment to promote your physical and psychological health as a path towards higher consciousness and self actualization.

It’s this mission that makes Yoga Garden more than a yoga studio.

You can trust that your yoga practice will be safe, effective and transformative under San Francisco Bay Area’s most competent and dynamic yoga teachers. Our teachers don’t just lead yoga classes—they embody and share the art of teaching. Intimately sized classes give you unparalleled access to their expertise.

Your yoga practice at the Garden is tended by a staff—passionate yogis, as well—committed to providing an extraordinary personal experience of yoga, community, and care.

Our students are the heart of our yoga community. Through the years, our students have become our friends, family, staff, and world class teachers and mentors. You won’t find a scene here; all bodies, all stages of life, all gender identities are welcome to pursue personal growth at the Garden.

The transformative physical and spiritual power of yoga is unlocked by the support of a nurturing community. It’s this support that makes Yoga Garden more than a yoga studio.
