YGSF 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training

Yoga Teacher Training

Since 2010, Yoga Garden SF has become San Francisco’s premier center for yoga teacher training and yoga teacher certification. Yoga teacher training at Yoga Garden SF is derived from the deep tradition and technical excellence of the great yoga lineages of ashtanga, Iyengar, and vinyasa yoga. But we don’t just train yoga teachers; rather, we strive to awaken the next great innovators. We do this by laying a solid foundation of technical and academic competence and igniting a passion for self discovery and service to others.

Our graduates become yoga teachers and studio owners around the globe.

Program Format and Schedule

We offer a 200-hour Yoga Alliance®-registered yoga teacher certification in two formats: an extended series of 12 weeks during evenings and weekend afternoons, or an intensive of 28 days.

Our yoga teacher training includes a solid foundation in anatomy, yoga history, yoga philosophy, yoga practice, and teaching skills.  Even if you don’t plan to teach you will find that this structured curriculum will be personally transformative and forever deepen your relationship to yoga.

Program Overview

At the completion of this course, you will be qualified to register your certification with Yoga Alliance®.

  • Have a daily yoga practice, Tuesday through Friday, and free daily access to regularly-scheduled yoga classes at YGSF.
  • Explore the theory of yoga practice, how it creates well-being, health and higher consciousness in yourself and others. You will learn how asana (poses), pranayama (breath control), and meditation deliver these benefits of practice.
  • Cultivate a teaching practice and develop the skillful art of teaching. Learn how to structure well-rounded and theme-based classes for individuals and group. You will have the opportunity to practice-teach throughout the course and receive relevant, constructive, compassionate feedback so that you may grow your confidence and effectiveness as a teacher. Our program emphasizes teacher preparation, even if you do not plan to teach, because we believe this is the most effective way to learn.
  • Explore the roots of hatha yoga through studying philosophy and understanding the historical context in which yoga has evolved from an ancient past through modern times. This context allows our students to see themselves in the great evolution of yoga; standing on the shoulders of the masters as they look towards the future.
  • Begin to learn the philosophy behind the practice, so that you can understand the reasons behind the actions.
  • Learn anatomy, anatomy of movement and how it applies to yoga practice. Each training includes the Yoga Tune Up® Integrated Embodied Anatomy Training.
  • Receive mentorship and individualized support that allows you to grow as a student and evolve as a teacher.
  • Learn the business of yoga, so you may grow a thriving teaching practice.
  • Become part of a life-long community of yoga students and professionals that will support your growth.

The Yoga Garden SF Difference: How Yoga Works

Our program synthesizes the integrity of Iyengar yoga, the fire of Ashtanga yoga, and the flowing grace of Vinyasa yoga, and  unlocks the mystery of how yoga works. We don’t just give you a script to teach, but the tools to share your own practice in a way that delivers the benefits of yoga to everyone. Even if you don’t plan to teach, you will understand how yoga works in your own life.

Our teachers bring decades of experience teaching, practicing, studying, and living yoga to mentor you in your practice and teaching.

Study, Learn, Practice, Teach

At its heart, hatha yoga is a spiritual practice explored through the body, mind, senses. By deepening your own experience of yoga, our programs make you better prepared to share with others.

We also offer Yoga Alliance-registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher Certification (RPYT), Kids’ Yoga or Childrens’ Yoga Teacher Training. Continuing education credits are available throughout the year.
