Teacher Profile: Karen Macklin

White_yoga_pubKaren Macklin (RYT-500) is one of Yoga Garden SF’s most loved Vinyasa Flow teachers. Try any one of her well-attended classes and discover a strong slow rhythmic flow that both challenges and offers an opportunity to enter a space of meditation and inquiry.

Karen started practicing yoga in 2000 to heal her body from a chronic pain condition. She found the practices to be so powerful and life-transforming that she later felt called to share what she had learned with others, leaving a career in publishing to be a yoga teacher. She has studied many forms of yoga including Iyengar, Ashtanga, Restorative, Shadow Yoga, and AcroYoga, as well as Buddhist meditation, and her teachings blend knowledge from all of these paths. She teaches with an emphasis on building internal strength, creating mindfulness, and establishing a deep connection with the energetic body.

Karen is also a journalist, playwright, and poet. She has written about yoga for a myriad of publications including Yoga Journal, Yoga International, FitYoga, Tricycle, and The San Francisco Bay Guardian. She feels grateful to the Yoga Garden, and its incredibly devoted students, for the opportunity to teach this practice that has so transformed her body, her mind, and her heart.
