Yoga Stride®–Now on Saturdays!

Yoga Stride®–Take your yoga practice outside!

Fridays 11:00am-12:30pm and now Saturdays 9:15am-10:45am! Warm up with a brisk walk through neighborhood hills and parks, followed by a 50-minute yoga practice in a beautiful outdoor setting. Build heat, endurance, strength, flexibly, and balance while inspired by San Francisco’s amazing weather and scenery.

Wear running/walking shoes and bring water. Bring water and a mat/towel that you don’t mind using outside (or grab one from the studio). There are Manduka eko SuperLite® folding travel mats for sale in the studio, which would be great for striding and practicing outdoors. Don’t forget a tote, strap or backpack to carry your mat.

Students of all levels are welcome. The class meets and ends in the Yoga Garden SF lobby.

The cost is included in regular class passes and memberships.

  1. Cool! I was wishing for an outdoor yoga class just yesterday. I hope this becomes more frequent.

  2. This class looks fantastic. I would LOVE it if this could be offered on a non-work day, such as a Saturday. Any chance of that happening?

  3. We’re working on making it happen on Saturday, also.

  4. Yoga Stride met for the first time this morning, and I was really impressed. We set off from Yoga Garden, and after walking a short distance to warm up, we paused at the labyrinth on the corner of Buchanan and Clay. Here we took some deep breaths and performed a few forward folds, beginning to open our chests, deepening our breath and awareness.

We headed up Duboce from there, up a series of short but steep hills. We continued through Corona Heights, winding up the side of the hill on a grassy trail. All that climbing was worth it when we reached the summit. The views of the city had been beautiful the whole way up, but it really is spectacular from up there. The weather was perfect: sunny, but not to warm. The breeze smelled like spring.

After taking a few moments to catch our breath and feel accomplished, we continued on the Buena Vista Park, where a grass covered lawn at the summit served as our yoga studio. To balance what had turned out to be a fairly strenuous bit of walking, Laurie led us through a sequence the opened hips, quads, and hamstrings. Broadening chests and lengthening spines. “Root your palms into the ground” took on a new, literal meaning as I felt the texture of grass and soil through my mat. What an amazing experience to hear the buzzing of insects in downward dog, or to feel the sun on my face as I turned into triangle pose!

The “yoga” portion and “striding” portion felt distinct, but complimentary and well-balanced. Overall, it was a beautiful and uplifting way to spend a gorgeous Friday morning.
