Garden Kids Yoga Teacher Training

To earn a Yoga Alliance Registered RCYS certification (Registered Children’s Yoga School), students must take both Garden Kids and Garden Teens, and have a Yoga Alliance RYT-200 designation. 45-hour  Yoga for Kids Teacher Training Program

RCYT Yoga Alliance® Registered in conjunction with Garden Teens Program

Yoga Garden Kids® is for parents, yoga teachers, school teachers, educators or those working with children 4 to 12 years old. Participants acquire the tools to help children deepen self-awareness and well-being through yoga and mindfulness. Participants explore a personal meditation practice while in training to develop the ability to authentically share mindfulness with youth. Yoga Garden Kids® is a unique, mindfulness-based program that will prepare you to teach yoga to youth and covers in-depth topics such as working with trauma, and at risk children.

Philosophy

Lighting the torch of mindfulness in the hearts of youth through yoga and meditation is one of the most powerful and empowering ways to shape our world. Yoga Garden Kids® was built on the philosophy that children learn best when playing. Learning to relax can help fearful and anxious youth learn. The program focuses on deepening a personal mindfulness practice, bringing yoga to children in their own words and conceptualization. There is an emphasis on the neuroscience of child development. This training prepares students to teach yoga to children. Students will learn tools for age-appropriate communication, how to craft unique mindfulness exercises and safe yoga sequences and how to to launch a sustainable career.

Curriculum

Students will learn and embody mindfulness that they will acquire with practice during this extensive training. Students will be introduced to the neuroscience and physiological development of children. Students will explore the various impacts of mindfulness and yogic relaxation on the brains of children.

Topics include:
  • A comprehensive study of the stages childhood, brain and emotional development.
  • Communication skills to interact with parents, schools and developmental specialists
  • Yoga poses for children
  • Basics of mindfulness, exercises and games
  • Teaching skills and tools for young audiences
  • Pediatric anatomy
  • Class observation and teaching practicums
  • Acro Yoga exercises and games
  • In-depth understanding of trauma and ways to practice yoga with at-risk youth
  • In-depth knowledge of child attachment theories
  • Tools in resourcing, creating, and sustaining a full time yoga teaching career
After Graduation

Students will be prepared to teach children yoga and mindfulness in :

This course provides 45 elective contact hours for YGSF 300 Hour and/or 45 Yoga Alliance® CEUs toward an RCYT certification in conjunction with Garden Teens Program.

Students will explore a variety of physical, emotional, and social challenges experienced by teens today. Participants acquire the tools to help teens deepen self-awareness and well-being through yoga and mindfulness. Participants will also explore a personal meditation practice while in training to develop the ability to authentically share mindfulness with youth. Yoga Garden Teens® is a unique, mindfulness-based program that will prepare you to teach yoga to youth and covers in-depth topics such as working with trauma, and at-risk teens.

Yoga Garden Teens® is built on the science based research that teens brains are developing cognitive processing functions such as reasoning, planning, judgement and self-regulation. By sharing the tools that mindfulness and yoga give us, teens will learn how to relax, practice self awareness, steady their minds and gain more stability and emotional regulation. The program focuses on deepening a personal mindfulness practice, and utilizing a physical practice as an outlet for stress. There is an emphasis on the neuroscience of the adolescent brain.

Curriculum

This curriculum is based on developing and practicing mindfulness and meditation. Students will embody these teachings through practice during this extensive training. Students will be introduced to research based neuroscience and physiological development of the adolescent body and brain. Students will explore real classroom experiences and learn how to respond.

  • Non-violent communication skills
  • How words and tones influences relationships
  • Yoga poses and modifications
  • Mindfulness, exercises and activities
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Class observation and teaching practicums
  • Acro Yoga and partner yoga exercises
  • In-depth understanding of trauma and ways to practice yoga with at-risk youth
  • Tools for reducing anxiety, developing empathy and self confidence
  • Tools in resourcing, creating, and sustaining a full time yoga teaching career
