E-RYT 500 | Teacher | Staff
Europa (they/them) is a mixed-race black, queer, non-binary trans person, currently living in San Francisco (Ramayatush Ohlone, Yelamu Territory), originally from Albany, NY. Since 2012, they have been a teacher of the healing practices of yoga and meditation, which they see as not only a physical practice but as an opportunity to breathe oneself into existence. Europa is an E-RYT 500 yoga teacher. They teach studio classes at Yoga Garden, and also in the 200-hour and 300-hour teacher training programs. Europa is also a lead teacher and co-creator of Yoga Garden’s Trauma-Informed Teacher Training.
After working as a Holistic Wellness Coach at a mental health recovery center, Europa started facilitating social justice and yoga workshops during a year-long internship at the Kripalu Center in 2014. They went on to coordinate and teach this material in 200-hour teacher trainings, finding that there is no better place to unpack our most deeply ingrained beliefs than within a philosophy that centers self-inquiry and compassion.
As a Cultural Competency Manager, they work closely with students, teachers, and management to dismantle oppression collectively within organizations. Europa is also a spoken word poet, cellist, movement artist and curator. Europa’s life’s work is centered around addressing and transforming the impact of systemic and personal trauma through alternative education, experimental performance, and collective care, in order to generate societal healing and lasting change.
