300-Hour Core Module: Advanced Philosophy & Contemplative Practices
September 10 - October 24
30 HOURS (24 IN-CLASS + 6 INDEPENDENT)
This module focuses on studying yoga philosophy, and centers on developing a deeper understanding of how to live and breathe yoga in your daily life. The central texts studied in this course are Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, which includes the Eight Limbs of Yoga (Ashtanga), and the Buddha’s Eightfold Path, which includes the Four Foundations of Mindfulness. Topics covered in this course include the examination of yoga in connection with ethical responsibility, mindfulness and concentration practices, appropriate livelihood, social justice, working with trauma, developing compassionate relationships, and acting from a place of discernment in our practices and lives.
The course includes reading, journaling, discussion, and meditation practice. The entire course is online.
- Yoga Sutra by Patanjali (Chip Hartranft translation) | Read before the course begins: Chapters 1 & 2
- Additional readings (including excerpts from, and notes on, the Eightfold Path) will also be emailed to you before the course begins.
