Trauma-Informed: Creating Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Spaces For Kids
November 16 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
This module taught by guest teacher Crystal McCreary will offer best practices for creating an environment for children and teens to learn yoga that is inclusive, supportive, and student-centered. While kids with trauma symptoms sometimes have behavioral issues that can be an obstacle to learning yoga, trauma-sensitive classroom management can create a compassionate classroom culture that honors the diverse emotional, physical, and social needs of these children, rather than forcing them to show up in a prescribed way. When kids feel safe, seen, heard and free to choose what participation looks like for themselves, we have created a yoga space where all our students can feel whole and thrive.
Participants in this module will learn how to offer routines and rituals that empower students to stay engaged and learn; co-create classroom agreements that allow kids to show up as their most authentic selves; establish loving, trusting relationships in the classroom; and create a safe container for learning, while fostering states of wonder, fun, and freedom.
