Trauma Core 1: Yoga Teacher Boundaries and Ethics

February 19 @ 2:15 pm - 4:15 pm

Trauma and Transference with Max Kopeikin

As yoga teachers, are we just instructors? Are we “healers”? Are we coaches? Are we friends?

In this training, we will cover the professional ethics and boundaries of working as a yoga teacher. This includes both the legal boundaries and the emotional/personal boundaries necessary to do the work. We will discuss the various applications of yoga in the classroom, studio, gym, hospital, prison and other spaces.

Students will be introduced to the concepts of scope of practice, professional competence, referral, and consultation. We will go over the trickiness of wearing multiple hats – yoga teaching, clinical work, bodywork, etc.

We will discuss sex, power and transference in the student-teacher relationship. This workshop will also begin to cover how to teach in a way that is inclusive of students working through trauma. This includes work around hands-on assists, permission/consent, physical space awareness and classroom setup.

Additionally, we will cover how to maintain your own personal and emotional boundaries in the room and develop personal self-care rituals that keep you healthy and model that healthy living for your students.
