Yoga Garden/Moxie is seeking Group Fitness Instructors with experience in Personal Training, Barre, Mat Pilates, Calisthenics and/or HIIT for in-studio instruction and program development. Our instruction is characterized by a high awareness of and responsiveness to students’ experiences during class; concise, timely, and relevant cuing; a clear understanding of the anatomy, kinesthesiology, and psychology of the taught practice based on personal experience in addition to theoretical learning, and a fluency in performance skills.
Yoga Garden/Moxie teachers often remain in our community for several years, establishing a strong connection to our students and community. Yoga Garden/Moxie has seven locations throughout San Francisco including NOPA/Lower Haight, 20th Street (Mission), Nob Hill, Noe Valley, Inner Sunset, Bernal Heights, and Inner Richmond neighborhoods. Some classes are simultaneously in-person, live-streamed, and recorded for on-demand replay. Compensation is per performance plus replay revenue. These classes create the scenario of building a digital library, and online following, with live demonstration models, while giving in-person instruction.
GROUP CLASS FITNESS INSTRUCTOR
Part-time, minimum 3 classes per week

This part-time position with competitive pay, includes a yoga membership. As part of a team in a dynamic organization, this position has lots of interesting opportunities for personal and professional growth. Additionally, staff members receive discounted entrance to all special events and workshops as well as partial or full scholarships for select training.
Compensation: Starting Base Rate $26 per class plus $3 per in-person registration, and $1 per online registration. Maximum in-person student capacity 34; average number of participants 10; estimate hourly rate $45-$75.
Scope of Role: Teach group fitness classes which integrate a variety of training modalities, including: strength training using primarily body weight (calisthenics), HIIT, and other forms of metabolic conditioning using minimal equipment. Teach specific classes such as mat pilates and yoga sculpt. Workouts that integrate dance, boxing and kickboxing movements are encouraged. Work together with the lead fitness instructor to design class programs on a weekly basis and define monthly goals for students. Curate music playlists weekly.
Instructor Responsibilities
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to class start time to set-up, write out class program (if necessary), welcome and check in students
- Ensure that the class program is challenging, but safe and accessible to all students
- Present the program flow (eg. amount of work/rest, structure of the program)
- Ask students about any injuries or other limitations and ask if anyone would prefer not to receive hands on adjustments
- Provide clear concise visual demonstrations with vocal cuing of each exercise
- Balance teaching the group with providing individual assistance
- Cue exercise progressions or regressions to adapt to individual fitness capacities and goals
Qualifications
- Charismatic, compassionate personality and a desire to help people
- 1 year teaching experience in a group fitness setting (preferred) or other relevant work experience
- Valid group fitness or personal trainer certification from an accredited organization (preferred)
