This month we welcomed a new teacher to the Yoga Garden SF team: Jenna Valez! Get to know her below, and sign up for her class here!

Tell us about yourself! What are some things that your students might not know?

Hi! I’m Jenna. I am from a small town in Sonoma County and come from a professional contemporary dance background. I have been dancing, performing and choreographing in the Bay Area for 6 years. My dance company, PULP, has participated in several shows around the US including Doug Varone’s DEVICES in New York City.

How did you become interested in yoga?

I first started practicing yoga in college. I was a dance major, so yoga was a great way to help deepen my body awareness and strengthen my dancing.

Tell us about your yoga journey. What style did you start in and with whom do you study now?

I fell in love with yoga when I first moved to San Francisco in 2015. I mostly practice alignment based vinyasa, but also love restorative and yin. All of my yoga training came from Yoga Garden SF, so I am humbled and honored to now be apart of the lovely and talented community.

Describe your teaching style. What can folks expect when they attend your class?

Since coming from a dance background, I like to keep my vinyasa classes fresh through creative and explorative movement. What moves you and how can we lead with that intention? I also believe that yoga is for everyone and everybody as my classes are geared to be accessible for all levels of practice. Every version of the pose is the pose!

Any exciting projects or plans on the horizon?

My most exciting plan is to teach at Yoga Garden! I’m also always excited to see my cat, Roger, when I get home.

Anything else you’d like to share with the YGSF community?

I am so excited to connect with the Yoga Garden community. If anyone has any exciting new vegan recipes, let me know. I’m always trying to test my skills in the kitchen.

That’s all for now! Sign up for Jenna’s classes and check her out on Instagram @yogi.jenni.
