As part of our merger with Moxie Yoga, we are excited to welcome Jenniferlyn (JL) Chiemingo to the team!

Tell us about yourself! What are some things that your students might not know?

I am a former EMMY award nominated TV News Producer. I have a 19 year old son who’s studying Environmental Science in college and I’ve been married to my husband for over 20 years. I love Cats! (especially Hello Kitty ;)) I broke my leg in four places in a hiking accident in June.

How did you become interested in yoga?

My mom suggested I try yoga in my mid 20’s because I was a stressed out TV News Producer and was trying to conceive a baby without luck. After dabbling for a few years, 9/11 happened and I decided to drastically change my life from TV producer to yoga teacher.

Tell us about your yoga journey. What style did you start in and with whom do you study now?

When I was in my mid-20’s, I started with what was called Hatha Yoga at the time. Holding standing poses, no flowing. I was introduced to a class called Hatha Flow in the late 90’s in San Francisco and felt a deep connection to the flow. I did do my first teacher training in Yoga Therapy and taught pre- and post-natal yoga, as well as yoga for cancer patients in the hospital for a few years. I was then sparked to follow yogis like Shiva Rea and Seane Corn, and did advanced teacher trainings with Shiva. I’ve been teaching and practicing flow – vinyasa style yoga for over 15 years.

I am also certified in Yin Yoga and Restorative which I love to teach while leading yoga retreats around the world. Now, I’m working on my Reiki Certification to bring energy healing into my teaching.

Describe your teaching style. What can folks expect when they attend your class?

I love to use Yoga Sutras and other historic texts to spark a theme to a well thought out flow. I am all about taking your yoga deeper to self discovery and expansion.

Any exciting projects or plans on the horizon?

I lead yoga retreats twice a year to amazing places with my travel partner. Coming up, I will be teaching in Croatia and Portugal!

Anything else you’d like to share with the Yoga Garden SF community?

I’m thrilled to be a part of a growing, connected community. Community IS yoga to me and I am so happy to join yours!
