Megan April yoga

As part of our merger with Moxie Yoga, we are excited to welcome Megan April to the team!

Tell us about yourself! What are some things that your students might not know?

I grew up in Pacifica and I love being near the ocean! When I’m not doing yoga, you can usually find me visiting coffee shops, baking sourdough bread, and chasing around my 8 month old son. I actually finished my 300 hour training when I was 39 weeks pregnant! I used to write for an electronic music blog and am a big fan of disco and house music, which I love incorporating into my class playlists.

How did you become interested in yoga?

I started doing yoga in college as a form of exercise but quickly discovered how deep this practice goes. Yoga has helped me manage my anxiety, learn to love my body, and given me the skills to navigate all sorts of life change. My favorite thing about yoga is its adaptability – it meets us where we are, no matter what. I’m constantly learning more about myself through this practice.

Tell us about your yoga journey. What style did you start in and with whom do you study now?

I completed both my 200 and 300 hour teacher trainings at Yoga Garden and focus mostly on alignment based vinyasa, though I love practicing yin and restorative yoga as well. I am also a prenatal yoga teacher.

Describe your teaching style. What can folks expect when they attend your class?

I think people come to this practice for all sorts of reasons — to work through something, to challenge themselves physically, to learn how to slow down and relax — and I want to make space for all of that in my class. I love breaking down poses, bringing awareness to all the intricacies of our bodies, and helping students realize their strength. The breath is such a powerful tool that can help us focus our minds and regulate our energy, so connecting breath to movement is a big part of my teaching too.

Any exciting projects or plans on the horizon?

I would love to host a retreat out in the redwoods – stay tuned! 🙂
