Nina Samaco-Zamora yoga

As part of our merger with Moxie Yoga, we are excited to welcome Nina Samaco-Zamora to the team!

Tell us about yourself! What are some things that your students might not know?

I was a former athlete (fencing and air rifle shooting), and post-athlete life led me to the practice of yoga. Currently, I am also a Psychology professor.

How did you become interested in yoga?

I was looking for a way to stay fit after retiring from competing in fencing. I discovered how healing and challenging yoga can be and got hooked!

Tell us about your yoga journey. What style did you start in and with whom do you study now?

My very first formal yoga practice was Bikram Yoga. I was doing sports marketing for a popular brand and one of our ambassadors owned a studio. I started to explore other forms of yoga. My aunt is an Iyengar teacher and she helped to broaden my appreciation for the practice. When I moved to the Bay Area in 2013, I was left with nothing to do for a few months and decided to take my YTT 200 with Yoga Tree. I studied Vinyasa Yoga but was drawn to therapeutics as well. I studied/study with Jason Bowman, Stacey Rosenberg, and Mark Rausa.

Describe your teaching style. What can folks expect when they attend your class?

My classes are efficient. I like to work on all parts of the body and work towards a peak pose (and this doesn’t mean a handstand or arm balancing poses!). I pay attention to alignment, the details but also I love a good flow!

Any exciting projects or plans on the horizon?

I am working on my little home by Lake Tahoe. I’m DIY-ing some renovations. I sometimes film my online classes from that location so I can take you with me thru summer and winter seasons by the lake!
