This month we welcomed a new teacher to the Yoga Garden SF team: Regan Catanzaro! She teaches Yoga Sculpt on Saturdays at 10:30 am. Get to know her below, and sign up for her class here!
I started teaching yoga in Italy at a community run free gym.
How did you become interested in yoga?
I was interested in yoga at a young age. I recently realized it may have had something to do with the TV show Dharma & Greg.
The first time I practiced yoga was in PE in grade school and I loved it. I took my first actual class when I was a teenager. It was a Hatha style class offered at the local YMCA. I continued taking classes through college where I starting practicing ashtanga style vinyasa regularly. That practice followed me to Rome where I found a Mysore Ashtanga studio and began practicing in that style while living there. When I returned to San Francisco I tried many more styles of class including vinyasa, kundalini, jivamukti, acro, power, iyengar, & sculpt, but I’ve found that ashtanga seems to best describe the yoga I practice regularly.
In every class I hold space for my students to allow them to let go for the duration of class and be present. I like to create an environment that allows students to get out of their heads and into their bodies. I bring lively music and lighthearted energy to my classes. My goal is to end class with everyone feeling even just a bit freer, lighter, and more connected than when they walked in.
I’m looking forward to organizing my first yoga retreat in the Bay Area this fall and hoping to plan one for Italy in spring 2022.
My passion is bringing people together and building community. I’ve found the practice of yoga to be very unifying. If you have any ideas or projects focused on creating community please reach out, I would love to help in anyway I can.
