Featured Teacher: Steph Lo

This month we welcomed a new teacher to the Yoga Garden SF team: Steph Lo!

Stephanie (RYT 200) is a lover of movement and passionate about the quiet, consistent power of yoga and barre work. With boundless energy and good tunes, she encourages proper alignment and challenges folks to squeeze in just a few more reps. Returning back to her native SF, she hopes her students leave feeling sweaty, accomplished, and spurred on by the Yoga Garden community.

She teaches Garden Barre on Mondays at 6:30 pm & Fridays at 9:00 am. Get to know her below, and sign up for her classes here!

How did you become interested in yoga?

After spending most of my life making defined shapes for others, I found that yoga created a space for my own expression and gave my body the authority to make decisions. I was always driving so hard with dance, but in yoga, I could finally close my eyes and not worry how things looked, but sense how it felt in my body. The transition was a little strange at first, but I began to find comfort in a practice that allows you to move with freedom and without expectations.

Tell us about your yoga journey. What style did you start in and with whom do you study now?

From there, I fell in love with vinyasa and the breath that accompanies movement. I completed my 200 teacher training at the yoga garden and went back to NYC to teach and perform. Now, I’m back in my hometown and transitioning to other career paths but still staying connected to daily movement and morning meditations.

Tell us about yourself! What are some things that your students might not know?

I’m going back to school to pursue nursing. I greet my plant babies as part of my morning meditation.

Describe your teaching style. What can folks expect when they attend your class?

For my barre classes, I focus on high energy and finding that good burn. I love moving with the music and encouraging the class to cross that finish line. And we might as well have some kooky fun along the way.

Any exciting projects or plans on the horizon?

I’m applying to nursing school this Fall, a huge career pivot that I’m super excited about. I’m also looking forward to getting back into studios and finding community as we slowly open back up.

Anything else you’d like to share with the YGSF community?

Happy to be back as an alum to share my passion for movement and flow with the community. It’s good to be back in San Francisco.
