studio spotlight bernal heights

It’s well known that each neighborhood of San Francisco has a unique personality embodied by the diverse communities that occupy them. Whether you’re looking for the zippy energy of main streets filled with music, or somewhere with more trees than people, our beautiful city has something for everyone. That’s why we’ve decided to share about each of our 7 studios to help you figure out which space feels like you. This week, our studio spotlight is shining on Bernal!

What Makes Bernal Special?

Our studio is located in a section of Bernal also known as La Lengua (Spanish for tongue) due to the tongue-like appearance of the neighborhood that separates west Bernal Heights Park and east Noe Valley. As one of San Francisco’s best kept secrets, La Lengua offers a cozy, close-knit neighborhood feeling, easy access to green community spaces, and dozens of delicious dining options. The studio itself is filled with natural light and beloved for its smaller class sizes that allow for maximum guidance and support from our teachers.

Teacher Highlight

We’ve got a lovely bunch of teachers who keep our Bernal Heights studio buzzing, and Megan April is one of them! Megan (E-RYT 500) is trained in alignment-based vinyasa, prenatal, and restorative yoga. Crafts creative and mindful flows for students of all levels, her classes encourage students to explore and challenge themselves. She invites her students to meet themselves where they are every time they step on the mat. Through her teaching, Megan hopes to share the many gifts of this practice – including confidence, strength, patience, and compassion – with others.

When she’s not doing yoga, you can find Megan biking around Golden Gate Park, and baking bread with her family in Pacifica! Check out her complete schedule here.

Neighborhood Treats

If you’re looking to visit our neighbors before or after a class, a good time is guaranteed.

For those in the mood for a satisfying slice, Pizzahacker is just down the block. Their superior thin-crust pies topped with sumptuous local ingredients are not to be missed.

Head next door into Emmy’s Spaghetti Shack and you’ll immediately feel the fun, effortless energy that fills their zany space. While their spaghetti is obviously amazing, there are plenty of delicious vegan and vegetarian options, too. Don’t miss the photo booth in the back!

Finally, if you’d rather continue your day with a drink and some tunes, two of San Francisco’s most beloved bars are just blocks away. El Rio offers no-frills, affordable drinks in a casual, green back patio with a crowd that is sure to bump your energy up a notch. As an active hub for SF’s queer community, their calendar is full of amazing events for everyone. And Royal Cuckoo is a classic dimly-lit spot for great cocktails and an unbeatable mix of old school vinyl records and live jazz.
